Obituary for Donald “Chief” Silvestro Donald J. Silvestro, 86, a resident of Dover Plains, NY, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, CT. Known to most as Chief, Don was employed as a truck driver at J&J Log and Lumber Corp in Dover Plains, NY for 35 years. Originally from Falls Villages, CT, Chief spent his entire adult life in the trucking industry and truly was a living legend. He spent many years trucking produce before moving on to the logging industry. His work ethic and pride in his truck put younger men to shame. Only days before his passing, he was still doing what he loved, trucking. Known for his tall tales and companion white German Shepherds, all named Puka, Chief never met a stranger. Whether it was weekend trips to Fantasy Island or hauling potatoes from Maine to Florida, he always had a story to tell. Chief was also very proud of his Native American heritage. Chief leaves behind his last dog, a beloved German Shepherd, named Sarge as well as his loving work family and friends who will miss him dearly. A celebration of Chief’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY.
