Obituary for Dale C. Thorne Dale C. Thorne, 85, of Pekin passed away at 6:00 PM Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Dale was born in Mason City, IL on July 10, 1932 to James E. and Eva (Zook) Thorne, Sr. He married Judy Leitner on January 19, 1957 in Pekin. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Wilbur and Ed, three sisters, Alice Carl, Betty Piccony and Ruth. Surviving are: his wife, Judy of Pekin; one son, Michael D. Thorne of Pekin; one daughter, Dana (Matt) Wiseman of Pekin; the light of his life, granddaughter, Jennifer L. Thorne of Morton; one sister, Beverly Lichtenberger of Tremont; many nieces and nephews. Dale graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1951. He served four years in the United States Navy and was discharged in November 1955 then going to work at Caterpillar Inc. He retired from Caterpillar in 1992 as a Senior Design Engineer after 37 years of service. He was instrumental in the organization of Pekin’s Youth Ice Hockey program in the 1960’s and the Pekin High School Ice Hockey Team in the 1970’s. For many years he served on the board of both the youth hockey and Pekin Stars Men’s Ice Hockey programs. Dale was a former member of the Pekin Elks Lodge #1271, Pekin Moose Lodge #916, Ducks Unlimited, Pekin Boat, Sunset Hills Country Club, Tremont Sportsman Club, Pekin Riding Club and NRA. Dale enjoyed hunting and fishing. He treasured his Canadian fishing trips and annual deer and antelope hunts to Wyoming every fall. He claimed to have the very best hunting and fishing buddies that anyone could ever ask for. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, July 6, 2018 at Henderson Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Van McCalister officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors by the United States Navy.
