Obituary for CMSgt Robert Joseph Zahorchak, USAF (Ret.) CMSgt. Robert Joseph Zahorchak, USAF (Ret.) was called Home to the Lord on Sunday, July 29, 2018. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict while he was in the U.S. Army and completed 4 tours during the Vietnam War after enlisting in the U.S. Air Force; his combined military service totaled 33 years. He was awarded the Bronze Star as well as other decorations including the Meritorious Service medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation medal, the Korean Service medal, the Air Force Longevity Service medal with 6 devices and the National Defense Service medal with 1 device. After his 33 year military career, he continued to serve his country with an additional 25 year Civil Service career at Lackland AFB. CMSgt. Zahorchak was a devoted Christian displayed with his long time membership at Calvary Hills Baptist Church where he served as Trustee. He was born on February 1, 1934 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania to George and Anna (Hizen) Zahorchak. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his daughters, Ruth Moorman and Susan Tatsch; and his son, Kenneth Scott. CMSgt. Zahorchak is survived by his best friend, Janice Hemeon; his son, Allan Wert and his wife, Ann; daughter, Kim Smith; grandchildren, Chris Moorman and his wife, Kiara, Daniel Moorman, Kelly Moore and her husband, Josh, Ryan Wert and his wife, Taylor, Greg Tatsch and his wife, Alison, Tanya Mechler and her husband, Michael, Richard Scott and his wife, Tania and Devynn Jarzombek and her husband, Clayton; and 14 great grandchildren. SERVICES Visitation will begin at 3:00 P.M. followed by the Service at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Calvary Hills Baptist Church, 910 W. Loop 1604 North with a Reception to follow at the Church. The Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be at 9:30 A.M. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road.
