Obituary for Clyde R. Richards Clyde Rich Richards, 97, passed July 23, 2018 at Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living in Salt Lake City. Clyde was born June 9, 1921 in Paris, Idaho to Clyde Randall Richards and Myrtle Rich Richards. Raised in Driggs, Idaho; Coos Bay, Oregon; and Morgan, Utah. Clyde loved racing the family thoroughbred who always won. He participated in the Pony Express Reinactment, 4H and band where he played the coronet. He graduated from Utah State Univ. then went on to Officer Candidate School at Columbia Univ. (US Navy) during WWII. Served on an LST, LSM and piloted the USS Indianapolis. Clyde married Carrol Maughan July 18, 1946 in the Logan temple. After receiving his PhD from Cornell Univ. He went to Greece on a Fullbright Fellowship. As professor at the Univ. Of Delaware he did research for the USDA and was invited work in Washington, DC in Cooperative State Research Service (CSRS) afterward from 1961 to 1983. He then became Director of the International Institute of Feedstuffs where he traveled internationally, retiring in 1986 to take care of his son Russell in his last months. Service was important. He served in the PTA, as Young Mens’ President, High Councilor, Ward Clerk and Branch President. He was the Shift Coordinator in the Washington DC temple on Fridays and Saturdays and served as Sealer in the Logan temple for 20 years. Clyde will be remembered for his sense of humor, loyalty to family, work ethic and his keen mind. He overcame health challenges so many times he was affectionately called the Energizer Bunny because he just kept going. Clyde was the last in his family of the Greatest Generation. Predeceased by his wife Carrol, son Russell Clyde, brothers Marion (Jack) and Dale. Survivors Renae (Russell), Keith, Debra (Rossi), 7 grandchildren and 6 grear-grands. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Saturday, August 4, at the Lundstrom Park 1st Ward, 1269 N 1600 E, Logan. A viewing will be from 6-8 pm, Friday, August 3 at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E.
