Obituary of Claira Hurlbut Claira “Lucille” Hurlbut, 96, of Muscatine, passed away on July 11, 2018 at Lutheran Living. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Muscatine. Interment will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Visitation for Lucille will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. A memorial fund has been established for First Baptist Church in Lucille’s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com. The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for Lucille’s arrangements and her family. Claira Lucille Hurlbut was born on August 26, 1921 in Louisa County near Wapello, the daughter of Chester S. and Zeta M. (Holland) Hainey. She attended high school in Wapello. On June 1, 1939, Lucille was united in marriage to Charles V. Hurlbut in Wapello. Charles and Lucille lived in Grandview and Muscatine. Lucille was a homemaker and also owned and operated a small craft store in their home. Lucille was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Muscatine. Lucille will be deeply missed by her children, Kay (Trevis) Twitty of Conesville; daughter-in-law, Betty Hurlbut of Jupiter, FL; grandchildren, Don Hill of Conesville, Tammy (Allen) Nicklaus of Tripoli, IA, Steve (Mary) Hurlbut of Cummings, GA and Adriana (Adam) Hanson of Jupiter, FL; great-grandchildren, Katie (Matt) Novak, Abby Hurlbut, Pierce Ram, Andrew Hurlbut, and Ella Hanson; brother, Dick (Marilyn) Hainey of Shreveport, LA and several nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; son Dennis Hurlbut; three sisters, Mary Harris, Arlene Erwin and Jean Chapman-Erwin and three brothers, Vern Hainey, John Hainey and Chet Hainey.
