Obituary for Charles Wood Charles F. Wood, 76, of Rensselaer, passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital. He was born in Hammond, Indiana on December 27, 1940, the son of Landis Lagrand Wood and Alice Josephine (Dayton) Wood. He graduated from Rensselaer High School with the Class of 1959. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the U.S.S. Midway, and a member of the American Legion. Chuck was a global sales representative for Bridgestone Firestone for 45 years. He started with the company in Salinas, CA and over the years was based in Noblesville, Carmel, and Indianapolis, Indiana, retiring in 2010. He enjoyed golfing and fishing. Chuck is survived by his five children: Stephen Wood (wife: Peggy), David Wood (wife: Sandy), Cindy Burns (husband: Joe), Shawn Wood, and Chad Wood; five grandchildren: Erin, Megan, Jennifer, Matthew, and Nathan; his significant other, Ruth Hershberger; one brother, Stephen A. Wood (wife: Donna); and one sister, Alice Wood Hoffman (husband: Bruce). He was preceded in death by: his parents, Landis and Alice Josephine Wood; and five brothers: Taylor “Bud” Wood, Robert “Bob” Wood, Richard “Dick” Wood, William “Bill” Wood, and Vaughn Wood. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 3-5 p.m. (CDT) at American Legion Post #29, 1565 N. McKinley Ave, Rensselaer, IN 47978. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: American Legion Post #29 or the Jasper County Veterans Council earmarked for the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall.
