Obituary for Carl Thomas “Tom” Jones Mr. Carl Thomas Jones, 67, of Lebanon, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Signature Healthcare at Parkwood in Lebanon. He was born on March 6, 1951 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, the son of the late Edgar D. and Madonna Kathryn (Orrick) Jones. He was extremely gifted in organ and piano and his talents were well-known. Tom had studied organ under Iva Reynolds for several years before branching out. He played organ and piano for churches, weddings, public events and various social gatherings. He and Joyce Fry of Crawfordsville played a duet for many occasions. Tom was a member of Gateway Gospel Quartet, Indiana Gospel Music Association, American Guild of Organists, and the American Theater Organ Society. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Crawfordsville for over fifty years, where he was part of the New Life Singers. He served as one of the church’s primary organists for twenty-five years and also as the audio technician and lighting assistant. Tom recently became a member at the First Baptist Church of Lebanon. His keen interests were the Wurlitzer Organ and the Paramount Music Palace in Indianapolis. Tom also had an interest and talent in working with electronics. He was employed at Raybestos for twenty-four years in Crawfordsville, where he was a member of Local 164 Union and served as a union officer and steward. He was also a member of the Wabash Club. He worked for Dunlap Development as a surveyor, Hamm’s Sunoco, and United Oil. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a former member of Crawfordsville Jaycees, Fraternal Order of Police and the Montgomery County Civil Defense. He loved children and took great delight and pleasure in playing Santa for more than twenty years for businesses and families. Everyone loved Tom’s infectious smile and his contagious laugh. He was an absolute joy to spend time with. He will be sorely missed by family and friends. Survivors include his sister, Carolyn (Ross) Powell of Columbia, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Mary Jones of Indianapolis; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a brother, C. David Jones. No services are planned.
