Obituary for Betty L. Howard Betty L. Howard, 92, passed away at Mercy Hospital Joplin, June 30, 2018. Betty was born June 17, 1926 in Joplin, MO to Carl and Lillian Davis. Betty was an active member of the Faith Life Worship center. She and her friends began the Prayer Shawl Ministry and the Widow’s Mite Group. She was also the President of Club 44, her graduating class. She made numerous quilts for her family and friends. She and her husband sang with the “Glory Land Singers” for many years in local churches, nursing homes and many events. Betty was united in marriage to John J. Howard; he preceded her in death July 23, 1997. Betty is survived by two daughters, Sherry Petersen of Carthage and Jennifer Cummins (Don) of Petersburg, Alaska; four grandchildren, Ty Cummins, Aaron Cummins, Shelly Jones and Brent Baker; seven great grandchildren and a soon-to-be-born great-great grandson. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Mildred Stuart and Leona Givens, and one brother, Robert Davis. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018 at Forest Park Cemetery Joplin, MO. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Ulmer Funeral Home.
