Bernice Child Orrock September 26 1923 July 28 2018 (age 94)

Bernice Child Orrock passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, July 28th, 2018. She is survived by her three children, Craig Orrock, Ellen Eckersley (Jay Eckersley), and Debbie Orrock Gardner, her younger sisters, Carolyn Pincock (Don), and JoAnn Sarlo, (Edward, deceased) and her youngest brother, Dick Child (Carolyn). Bernice was preceded in death by her loving parents, Roy and Ellen Rundquist Child, her elder brother Robert Child, (Carol), and her younger sisters Jean Stocks (Boyd), Sharron Kennedy (Warren), and Lois Cottle (Ron). Bernice was born on September 26th, 1923 and grew up on a farm in Roy, Utah. She was the eldest of six daughters, an extraordinarily hard worker, and a great help to her family in the home and on the farm. Popular, bright, and kind, Bernice excelled in her studies at Weber High School and continued on to attend Weber State University, (then Weber College). Still very young, Bernice was drawn to serve her country with pride during World War II as a Lady Marine stationed in Coronado, California. Bernice married Phil Orrock August 28, 1946. A woman of remarkable strength and talent, she owned and operated a beauty salon in her home, raised three children, and developed her skills as a renowned cook and gardener. She was well known for her beautiful rose garden, delicious tomato patch, perfect pie crusts, and famous Sunday dinners. She took pleasure in painting, and became a force to be reckoned with on the golf course–achieving two holes in one! Bernice’s greatest pleasure however, lay in caring for her family. Bernice devoted her life to her family, and lived as a powerful example of faith, courage, and humor to her children, her 16 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. Even as the family grew, Grandma Bernice always exhibited the extraordinary ability to make every child in her family feel uniquely special, exceptionally bright, and admired beyond all reason. Her home, like her presence, was a place of incomparable love, comfort, beauty, respite, laughter, perpetually full candy dishes, and delicious breakfasts. Bernice was a faithful member of the LDS faith her entire life, and served in many callings, including Primary, Relief Society, Young Women, and even Scouting. She was a diligent visiting teacher and held this calling in high regard throughout her life, always taking the time to visit her sisters in the gospel and attend to their needs. Bernice loved the gospel, sharing and demonstrating her testimony throughout her life. Bernice led a life of 94 years of selfless service and unfailing gratitude. To the end, she was beautiful in every sense–unfailingly strong, quick-witted, bright, and kind. She departed this life to join her long-missed loved ones, and to continue her service in a more perfect form. To the countless lives she touched, Bernice leaves behind a steadfast legacy of faith, benevolence, and love. Our mother, sister, and sweet grandmother will be missed beyond measure–until we meet again. Services to honor and celebrate the remarkable life of Bernice will be held on Friday, August 3rd, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Friday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden. Our gratitude goes to those who served Bernice at Stonehenge Rehabilitation and to those who provided such loving, caring service to her at The Abbington Assisted Living in Heber City, Utah. favorite_border Donations Pledges
