Obituary for Albert Capuano KINGSTON – Albert Bernard Capuano, 93, Retired General, NYS Army Reserves, formerly of Sycaway, Troy, NY, died peacefully Saturday, June 16, 2018 at his home. Born in Troy, NY on March 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Gerard and Gaetana Salvatore Capuano. At the age of 17, Albert enlisted in the US Army to serve in World War II. He landed in Normandy six days after the initial invasion. He served with a truck company throughout Germany. After the war in 1948, he entered Officer’s Candidate School at Ft. Riley, KS. He served as a First Lieutenant in Korea and later became a Captain before joining the Army Reserves. He retired after 47 years of military service as a General in the NYS Army Reserves. His uniform was donated to the NYS Military Museum in Saratoga Springs and he was honored with a Certificate of Excellence by Ulster County Executive Michael P. Hein on June 14, 2018 Albert was employed by the Watervliet Arsenal and later by the Veterans Administration in Albany from 1973-80 before retiring. In retirement, Albert enjoying traveling in his motorhome across the USA. He was the husband of the late Rita M. Rinaldi Capuano and Annette M. Thomas Capuano and is the beloved partner of Katherine “Kay” Souers of Kingston; devoted father of Laureen (Jude) Shepard of Willow Spring, NC, Stephen G. (Lisa) Capuano of Camas, WA and the late David Capuano; stepfather of Donna (Stephen) Milllington of Maryland, Kimberly (Brian) Eccles of Mechanicville, Deborah (Paul) Yando of Melrose and Lisa (Vance) Marsett of Troy; Kay’s children, Diana (Emerson) DuBois, Donna Hall, Robin (Howard) Johnson and Dean (Michael Theriault) Souers; grandfather of Ryan and Graig Shepard, Zachary and Rachael Capuano; great grandfather of Ethan and Gavin Shepard, George and Nicholas Shepard and 7 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren; brother of the late Anthony, Patrick and Frank Capuano, Lucy Mainello and Carmel Valoze. Relatives and friends may call at the Doran Funeral Home, 9 South Lake Avenue, Troy on Tuesday from 11:30am – 1 pm followed by the funeral service at 1 pm with Pastor John Needham officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 pm at the Reformed Church of the Comforter, 26 Wynkoop Place, Kingston.
