SAUGUS- Of Saugus, Mr. Alan W. Merritt, age 71, died at Tufts Medical Center in Boston on Friday, July 27th surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Janis (Medland) Merritt. Born in Melrose, Alan was the son of the late Harold Merritt and Charlotte (Longfellow) Navarro. Alan is a lifelong Saugus resident who worked at the General Electric as a machinist for over 40 years. He was also an avid gardener. In addition to his wife, Alan is survived by his daughters Jill Merritt of NJ, Loralee Wood of Saugus; brother; David Merritt and his wife Phyllis of Ipswich, sister; Kim Dorsett and her husband Scott of FL. Alan is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan Merritt and Tyler Wilson. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the MSPCA at mspca.org At the request of Alan services are private.
