Adeline O’Leary Hallock of Arizona formerly of Leadville 2018

Adeline O’Leary Hallock passed away on June 17, 2018 of heart failure. She was 90 years old. Adeline was born in Butte, Montana on March 18, 1928, the eldest daughter of John T. O’Leary and Emma Olga Schlaepfer O’Leary. One of thirteen brothers and sisters, she grew up in Leadville, Colorado attending the 9th Street School graduating from Lake County High School in 1946. While in high school she participated in the Selective Girl’s Chorus, the Girl’s League and studied voice and piano with Mrs. Florence Fitzsimmons. She was employed by her family’s business, the Valley Home Dairy, where she worked in the plant and was responsible for doing bookkeeping. In the fall of 1946, Adeline began her collegiate music studies in voice and piano at the Lamont School of Music in Denver, Colorado. In 1949, she transferred to the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio where, as a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, she graduated in 1952 as a dramatic coloratura mezzo-soprano with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. During a gap year in 1948, she worked in the San Francisco Bay Area for United Airlines. In the fall of 1952, Adeline relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area where she worked for the Lenkurt Electric Company and for the Standard Oil Company of California. She sang with the Peninsula Comic Opera Company, the Lenkurt Electric Company Glee Club, the Community Church of San Carlos, the Coastside Chorale and, from 1977-1987, Adeline sang with the Bay Area’s celebrated Masterworks Chorale. On July 4, 1957 Adeline married Donald G. Hallock. They would be married for 37 years and welcomed a daughter, Lisa, for whom she provided a firm foundation in music and piano. A devoted wife and mother, Adeline avidly pursued gardening – roses, dahlias and fuschias especially. She was an excellent homemaker, money manager, bookkeeper, correspondent, writer and enjoyed studying classical guitar. In 1987, Adeline retired with her husband to the desert southwest where they resided in Phoenix, Arizona. Adeline was a season ticket holder to the Phoenix Symphony, a contributing listener to KBAQ 89.9 Classical FM and a 16-year patron and season ticket holder to Ballet Arizona. She contributed to the Disabled American Veterans, The Arizona Republic’s “Season for Sharing” and the Banner Desert Medical Center Cardiology Department in Mesa, Arizona. Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, G. Hallock, her parents John T. O’Leary and Emma Olga Schlaepfer O’Leary, and, her brothers Edward, Mark and Kenneth O’Leary. She is survived by her daughter: Lisa Hallock Nelson (Bill) of Phoenix, Arizona; her grandchildren: SSG William Nelson (Yvonne) of Ft. Hood, Texas; Caitlin Nelson Klemmetson (1st Lt. Shawn) of Gilbert, Arizona; and her great grandchildren: Sarah, Anthony and Amanda Nelson of Ft. Hood, Texas. Adeline is survived by her brothers and sisters: Donald O’Leary of Greeley, Colorado; John O’Leary of Henderson, Colorado; Dr. Emmett O’Leary of Pueblo West, Colorado; Albert O’Leary (Kelli) of Alamosa, Colorado; Alfred O’Leary of Phoenix, Arizona; Mary O’Leary DalPiaz (Chuck) of Cederedge, Colorado; Rick O’Leary (Donna) of Garland, Texas; Doris O’Leary Grasmick (Allen Ingram) of Pueblo, Colorado and Charlie O’Leary (Jannece) of Leadville, Colorado. Adeline is also survived by Betty Schlaepfer, Jane Schlaepfer Tremaine (Richard) and Pearl Neff Pederson all of California; Kathy Neff Keech (Bob), Beatrice Neff Trautman (Tucker), Millie Gorman Billings (Frank Zambrano) and Garnet Smith all of Colorado; Danette O’Leary Mulcahy of Butte, Montana and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Adeline prided herself in being a very hard-working person throughout her life, wherever her life took her and whatever challenges and hardships she encountered along the way. Adeline was beloved by all who knew her and respected her for the noble life she led. The example she set forth each and every day of her life will forever be a guiding light to all those she knew and loved. Adeline will be remembered at a memorial service to be held the 25th of August at 10:30am at Evergreen Cemetery in Leadville, Colorado. All family and friends of Adeline are invited to attend.
