Carl F. Berger, 71, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away after a six-month battle with cancer on Monday, June 11th, at Reading Hospital Tower Health, West Reading. Born in Pottsville on September 5, 1946, he was the only son of Evelyn C. (Walton) Berger, of Orwigsburg, and the late Paul J. Berger. He was the husband of Marie F. (Pfeiffenberger) Berger.The couple shared 47 years of marriage. Mr. Berger was a graduate of Pottsville High School and retired from Dana Corp. as Production Lead Supervisor 34 years of service. He also served 12 years with the PA National Guard. Mr. Berger was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Schuylkill Haven. He joined the Cressona Lodge 426 F&AM in 1993, serving in many capacities, including past master & assistant secretary.He served the Grand Lodge of PA as District Deputy Grand Master from 2004-2010.His other Masonic affiliations include: Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Valley of Reading, Reading Lodge of Perfection, C. Gilbert Steffe Council of Princes of Jerusalem & a Past Sovereign Prince; Francis Marion Highly Chapter of Rose Croix, Reading Consistory; Valley of Reading A.A.S.R., past membership chairman and county club coordinator for seven counties of the Valley of Reading, & he served as secretary for the Valley of Reading’s A.A.S.R. Mr. Berger, a member of Rajah Shrine, is a past president of the Past Master’s Club & held membership in its Schuylkill County Club.He is also a member of Hi-Twelve Schuylkill County Club 639.He was bestowed with the Scottish Rite honorary degree of a 33rd and last degree in Freemasonry of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2015. Civically, Mr. Berger had served and chaired many committees while elected to Schuylkill Haven’s Borough Council.His service to the Schuylkill Haven community concluded when he served as Economic Development Coordinator from 2011-2014. Mr. Berger served as community manager of Frieden Manor, an American Residential Community, from 2010 to 2015. Other recognitions include Berks County Industrial Management Club President from 1989-1990, YMCA Organizational Leadership Award in 1989 & Schuylkill County Tourism Citizen of the Year Award in 2003. In addition to his mother and wife, he is also survived by three daughters, Carleen Mulholland & husband, Shane, Flying Hills, Kristie Henry & husband, Stefan, Red Lion, & Cheryl Bausher & husband, Mark, Sinking Spring, and five grandchildren: Benjamin, Matthew, Joshua, Kendall, & Lauren. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 5 – 7:30 p.m. at Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, 15 Earl Stoyer Drive, Schuylkill Haven. Masonic service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be conducted at Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Schuylkill Haven, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 14th, with Rev. Ted Rathman officiating. An additional time for viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday morning. Interment will immediately follow the funeral at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Children’s Dyslexia Center, in Memory of Carl Berger, P.O. Box 6013, Reading, PA 19610.
