Elizabeth Theresa LIZ Gasch 1931 2018

Obituary for Elizabeth “”LIZ”” Gasch (Meyer) Elizabeth Theresa (Meyer) Gasch W8532 County Road X, Darien, WI 53114 John and Margaret Meyer’s parents, Elizabeth’s grandparents traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to the United States. The hope of owning land, free land in a free country, was the magnet which attracted thousands of immigrants to North Dakota. Homesteading as early as 1893 were German speaking immigrants from Russia whose forefathers had immigrated to Russia from Germany and Poland in the early 1800’s. These homesteaders were predominantly devout Catholics who prayed with their families in their own homes. This area is 14 miles north of Gladstone and Taylor, ND. Liz and her twin sister were born on a farm in this area, near the town of Hirschville, North Dakota November 27, 1931. A mid-wife was present for the delivery. St Phillips, the Catholic Church in Hirshville, is where Liz was baptized, 2 days after her birth November 29, 1931. Liz never cared much for school but went faithfully unto high school. She then met a young man, Arnold Thomas of Richardton, ND. They married in 1951. They had three children Dan, Sandy and Terry. In 1960, Arnold and Liz separated. During this time separated, Liz worked odd jobs to care for her three young children and pay off debts. Then in 1961 Liz had a job offer at a factory in Harvard, Illinois along with her brother, Ray Meyer. Both families settled in the Delavan, Wi area. A couple years later, she began working at General Motors in Janesville, Wisconsin. There she met Harold “Pete” Gasch. They were married June 30, 1965 and purchased a home in Darien, WI that August. This is where son, Michael was born. Liz has resided in Darien since this time. This is where she stepped into her Lord’s presence. She is survived by four children Michael & Linda Gasch of Darien, Terry Thomas of Darien, Sandy & Richard Geister of Darien, and Dan & Nancy Thomas of Sanford, FL.; ten Grandchildren; Great Grandchildren; and a brother Ray & Vi Meyer of Mandan, ND. Liz is best known by her kindness, generosity, gardening, dancing the Polka with Pete; love of music and her Christian Faith. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed. Memorial gathering will be from 2 to 4 pm on Friday, June 1st. at the Betzer Funeral Home. A celebration of life sharing time will be 4pm at the funeral home. The family will then proceed to Oakwood Cemetery in Sharon,Wi for burial. We are grateful for the Darien Ambulance Team and Hospice.
