John Millard Butler Baillio 2018

John Millard Butler Baillio (Bruddy), age 76, passed away at home unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, May 8, 2018. He was born to Robert Higgins Baillio and Helen Butler Baillio in Norfolk, Virginia on April 10, 1942 and grew up in Virginia Beach. He attended Norfolk Academy and Norfolk Catholic High School and graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1965. He served in the army from 1965-1967. In 1967, he returned to Virginia Beach to work in the family business, Baillio Sand Company. John believed in supporting the Virginia Beach community as demonstrated by his consistent involvement. He currently serves as the President of the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad Foundation and formerly served as the Treasurer. Additional past community service roles include: President of the Virginia Beach Foundation, President of the Virginia Beach Exchange Club, President of the Princess Anne County Historical Society, President of the Old Coast Guard Station Board, member of the Historical Review Board, member of the BFG Book Club, and member of the Princess Anne Country Club. He also actively led restoration of the DeWitt Cottage and establishment of the 24th street park. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend as well as an avid bridge player, woodworker, runner, and skier. He is survived by his beloved wife Nancy Black Baillio from Richmond, Virginia. They were married in 1965 and have two daughters Catherine (and James) Werner and Anne (and Jay) Standing. Their four grandchildren are Briggs and Butler Standing and Julia and Anne Werner. John is also survived by his brother, Robert Higgins (and Anne) Baillio, Jr of Houston, TX and his two sisters Margaret Baillio (and William) Simkins of Virginia Beach, VA and Helen Baillio Howcott of New Orleans, LA. He will be honored on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church (300 36th Street, Virginia Beach) immediately followed by a reception at the Princess Anne Country Club.
