Obituary for Anton “Tony ” Luxhoj Anton “Tony” M. Luxhoj, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at home in his favorite recliner, surrounded by everything he loved. He was born in Denmark on December 15, 1928, to the late Jens and Dorthea Luxhoj, and emigrated to the United States in October 1950, when he was 21 years old. Tony was a two-time veteran, having served in the Danish Army from 1949-50 as well as the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-54. He met the love of his life, Sonja L. Eklund, while attending night school to obtain his high school diploma in Eugene, Oregon, and they married on June 30, 1955. After graduating from the University of Oregon with a degree in Business Administration in 1960, Tony hired with Alcoa and travelled the world with his growing family. A self-taught woodworker, he developed a love of antique clocks while living in Belgium in the 1970s. Tony arrived in Port Lavaca, Texas, in 1980, retired from Alcoa after 23 years of service, and followed his passion by launching a second career as a clockmaker serving the South Texas area for the next 30 years. A stroke in 2011 slowed Tony down, but he continued to enjoy life and his hobbies, visits from his family, and Sonja’s constant companionship. Tony is survived by his wife, Sonja L. Luxhoj; daughters, Erika L. Byers (Malcolm “Turk” S. Byers III) and Cindy D. Luxhoj; son, Erik K. Luxhoj (Diane M. Luxhoj); brothers, Poul, Knud and Tage (John) Luxhoj; and six grandchildren, Alexandra and Malcolm Byers, Gavin and Ian Hahn, and Anna and Matthew Luxhoj. In addition to his parents, Tony is preceded in death by brothers, Peter, Hans and Erik Luxhoj, and granddaughter, Alaina Hahn. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Grace Funeral Chapel. A private family celebration of Tony’s life is planned for later this year.
