Obituary for Mr. Phil J Baker Mr. Phil J. Baker, age 65, of Smyrna, a native of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at his home, under the care and comfort of his family. Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Brother Ron Dewitt, Brother Keith Hodges, and Brother Scott Hord will officiate. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 5:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, May 4, 2018, at the funeral home. He was born February 9, 1953, in Shelbyville, to the late Alvis Aron and Ruth Donegan Baker. An award-winning journalist, Phil retired from the Arab Tribune. He began his journalism career at the Shelbyville Times Gazette. In his retirement, he sold real estate with United Realty Group Century 21 and was awarded “Rookie of The Year”. Phil was a published author and wrote and performed gospel music. An ordained minister, he held membership at Christ Life Community Church in Smyrna. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Don Baker. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Sandra Haislip Baker, of Smyrna; two daughters, Shelly (Michael) Alfred, of Murfreesboro, and Katie (Matthew) Baker McCormick, of Smyrna; two brothers, Gerald (Betty) Baker, of Shelbyville, and Dr. Timothy (Natalie) Baker, of Hoover, Alabama; and one granddaughter, Nadia Alfred. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
