Obituary for Paul Dietrich Koenig Paul Dietrick Koenig (von Koenigseck) Born August 10, 1933 in New York, NY, Paul died May 1, 2018 in Franklin, TN. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hedwig von Koenigseck, née Langfelt, brother Kurt von Koenigseck, and sister Elfrieda Marletta. He is survived by his wife Victoria Koenig, brothers Douglas Vaughn and Edward von Koenigseck, son Dr. Mark Koenig (Susan), daughter Kathleen DeMill (Burt), grandsons Mitchell Koenig and Connor DeMill, as well as numerous nieces and grand nieces, nephews and grand nephews. He graduated from Island Park High School 1951 before volunteering to serve in the US Air Force (1951-1959) as a radio operator during the Korean War. During his service tenure, he flew 53 combat support missions and achieved the rank of Staff Sargent. He attended Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in New York earning Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. His career included working for the defense industry, then the New York Daily News before moving to Vienna, Virginia in September 1978 to work for the Federal Government. While there, he worked in the Departments of Defense, Commerce, and Navy (involved with development of anti-submarine warfare), before retiring January 1, 2000. He volunteered as a troop leader for the Boy Scouts, attended Saint William the Abbot Catholic Church in Seaford, NY, and Our Lady of Good Council in Vienna, Virginia. He was a proud member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. In October 2017, he moved to Franklin, TN to be closer to his family. Paul was a generous, loving, selfless, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. At home, he enjoyed reading about cars and home repair, and could often be found under the hood of one of his cars, doing yardwork, repairing a television, or working on a home repair project. Science fiction, spy, war, and historical novels and movies fascinated him. At work he was a respected and consummate professional. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A military funeral service will be conducted at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery Chapel in Nashville, TN, at 11 A.M., Friday, May 18, 2018. Interment will follow the service. A funeral mass will be held at the Chapel at Saint Thomas West Hospital on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 5 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Fisher House Foundation.
