David is survived by his mother, Patricia “Patchee” Janis; father, Benedict Black Elk; step-mother, Marla Under Baggage; daughter, Betty Rain Lynn Janis; step-son, Christopher Roubideaux; step-daughter, Jada Roubideaux; brothers, Kristan & Kenneth Black Elk; sisters, Faye “Bernie” Richard, Justine Black Elk-Carlow, Carrie Black Elk, Rebecca Roubideaux, Jessica Black Elk, Iva “Baby Iva” Black Elk, Creedance “Gari Dawn” Janis-Brown Bull, and Red Fawn Fallis; girlfriend, Tina Sitting Holy, uncles, Tom & Enos Poor Bear, Clifford & Owen Black Elk, Gary, O.D., & Robert Janis; aunts, Iva Black Elk-Roy, Fredia, Marlene, & Michelle Poor Bear, Arlette (Mike) Janis-Tyon, and Lorita Running Hawk; and numerous nephews, nieces, & cousins. David was preceded in death by his brother, Benedict Black Elk, Jr.; maternal grandparents, Kenneth Janis, Sr. and Bertha Yellow Hawk; paternal grandparents, Wilson Black Elk, Sr. and Mabel Red Shirt; uncles, Webster Poor Bear, Loren Black Elk, Wilson “Wally” Black Elk, and Kenneth “Brown Boy” Janis; and aunts, Stella Black Elk and Charlene Janis.
