Obituary for Mrs. Mary Lavinia Powell Mary Lavinia Holden Powell, 90, of S. Oak Street, Seneca, wife of the late Thomas Ray Powell, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 28, 2018 on her 90th birthday, at The Residences at Park Place in Seneca. Born in Tamassee, SC, Mrs. Powell was the daughter of the late William Bryan and Beulah Augusta Hudson Holden. She worked as an Operator for Southern Bell, as an inspector for The Torrington Co., then NCEES before retiring. Mrs. Powell was a former children’s Sunday School teacher for many years and was currently a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church in Seneca. Mrs. Powell is survived by her sons: James Edward Powell (Lori) of Clarksville, TN and David Eugene Powell of Seneca, SC; six grandchildren: Walter Craig Powell (Shelley), and Matthew Thomas Powell (Cynthia) of Seneca, SC, Bradley William Powell and Evan Scott Powell of Anderson, SC, Nicole Alexis Powell and Ryan James Powell of Clarksville, TN; four great-grandchildren: Garrett Cody Powell, Garner Barrett Powell, Grace Addison Powell, and Austin Powell of Seneca, SC. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her brother: John Edward Holden of Clayton, GA. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Davenport Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM, Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Davenport Funeral Home. A special thanks to the staff in the memory care unit at The Residences at Park Place who offered their loving care of Lavinia during her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wilderness Way Girls Camp, 175 Camp School Lane, Fair Play, SC 29643. The families are at their respective homes.
