Benjamin A. Burch, Jr., 99, died Sunday, May 27, 2018, at White Oak Manor in Newberry, SC. Born on December 7, 1918 in Roanoke, VA, he was a son of the late Benjamin A. Burch, Sr. and Meriam Whitescarver Burch. He was an US Army Air Force veteran of WW II serving in the CBI Theater as a flight engineer on a C-87 cargo plane making many flights over the HUMP. Mr. Burch is survived by his children, Bob Burch (Ann) of Prosperity, SC, Ben Burch, III (Carolyn) and Madeline Willis, all of Roanoke, VA, and Richard Burch (Bridget) of Riverdale, GA; grandchildren Laura Mitchell (Chris) of Prosperity, SC, Chad Cox (Jeannie) of Newberry, SC, Todd Cox (Laura) of Kapolei, HI, Colin Burch (Kim) of Fredericksburg, VA, Christopher Burch (Jennifer) of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Evan Lovelady, Jacob Caulder, Dakota Cox, Remington Cox, Reid Webster, Abby Webster, Keyna Cox, Forrest Shank, Tatum Cox and Lily Cox, Sarah Burch, Allison Burch, Rebecca Emerson, Patricia Strickland, Barbara Allen, and Richard Burch; and two great-great grandchildren, Hudson & Addie; and siblings, Elmyra Mitchell, Martha Grey Agner and Betty Luber all of Roanoke, VA. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Phyllis Burch; and siblings, Joseph Burch and Emily Alice Ross. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at 6:00 PM in the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel in Newberry, SC by the Rev. Jimmy Counts and Laura Mitchell (granddaughter). The family will receive friends following the funeral service. Burial will be in Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 11AM.
