Robert H Allen 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert H. Allen announce his passing. Bob, age 90, died Friday, May 11, 2018 at Brookdale Harrisburg. Born November 19, 1927 to Gratton S. and Viola (Smith) Allen, Bob resided in Harrisburg/Colonial Park area his entire life. You may remember Bob from St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral or more recently, St. Andrews in the Valley. He enjoyed singing in both men’s choirs. Bob attended Lower Paxton High School. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy. After his honorable discharge, Bob went on a blind date and met “a real knockout,” Mary Ann Bickhart. Married June 8, 1949, they spent 66 years together before Mary Ann’s passing in 2015. Bob was a hard worker, spending many years in the construction business. His specialty being brick masonry. He was quite proud to have cemented every brick in the home he built in 1954. “The house that Bob built” remains family owned to this day. Bob was very active as a member of the Lower Paxton Lions Club and the American Legion. He volunteered countless hours to serve his community. We all remember the Lions Club Pancake Breakfasts! Some will remember Bob as a building and code enforcement officer for Lower Paxton Township. Bob enjoyed Penn State Football and watching the 2018 Super Bowl Champs, the Philadelphia Eagles. Mid-Life Bob found a passion for the game of golf. He always looked forward to the annual Spring Golf trip to Virginia. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by siblings, Bud, Charles, Lucy and Dolly. Also predeceased, great-grandson Gabriel. Surviving are Bob’s children, whom he loved unconditionally; Nancy C. Lintner (John), of SC, Barbara A. Sebastian (Paul), of Harrisburg; and Robert S. Allen, of NC. A brother, William Allen (Jackie) of Mechanicsburg also survives his beloved older brother. Surviving grandchildren include: John Ryan (Meghann), Jenna (Ira), Elizabeth (Claudio), Eric (Megan), Sarah, Alexandria, and Connor. Bob was blessed with eight great-grandchildren; Rocco, Ramona, Graham, Beckham, Dominick, Ciro, Grady and Gwendolyn. Bob’s kindness, generosity and gracious faith will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Bob’s family would like to thank the staff at Arden Courts and Clarebridge staff at Brookdale Harrisburg for their loving care. On what would have been Bob and Mary Ann’s 69th wedding anniversary, a celebration of Bob’s life will be held Friday, June 8, 2018 at 10:30 A.M., at St. Andrews in the Valley Episcopal Church, 4620 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. – 10:30 A.M., and a reception will be held at the church after the service. The family asks that the colors, red, white and blue be worn to the service to honor their father’s military career. Burial, with full military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Association at Alz.org or: 1-800-272-3900.
