Obituary for Hugh Zinsmeister Hugh Zinsmeister of Reedsville, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at his home. He was born January 2, 1934 in Astoria, N. Y., he was the son of the late Hugo W. Zinsmeister and Grace (Didrikson) Zinsmeister. He married Lynn (Parker) Zinsmeister on November 28, 1953. He was Preceded in death by a daughter Lynn Helen, a granddaughter, Stephanie, one sister Ruth Schonewald, and a brother Lawrence McCloskey, both of New York. He was the last of his immediate family. He is survived by a Son-in-law Thomas F Maurer, of Selinsgrove, 2 grandsons, Andrew D. Maurer, and wife Christine, 2 great-grandsons, Jude and Joseph and 2 great-granddaughters, Alise and Eveline, all of Broad Run, VA. Also, Daniel T. Maurer and wife Linde and 2 great-granddaughters, Isabelle and Emilia of Nicholson, Pa, 4 nieces, 3 nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. He served in the 137th Fighter Interceptor Squadron of the NY Air National Guard, then served in the US Army in Korea and Japan. He was employed at the International Peripheral Systems retiring in 1996 as an engraver. He was a charter member of the Lewistown Pistol Club where he helped build the range and buildings, serving as president for several years. He was a life member of the NRA and the Good Sam Camping Club, a member of the Family Motor Coach Association, and a member of the Pine Creek Valley Roadrunners, and a charter member of the Penna Keystone Travelers where he served as President from 1997 to 2008. He was a member of the State College Radio Control Club serving as President for 2 years. He was safety officer for the club for many years. He greatly enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled airplanes. He was a member of the Mifflin County Model Railroad Club greatly enjoying building layouts and running trains during the club’s annual open house. He enjoyed camping and traveling in his RV. All services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of The Barr Funeral Home Inc. and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Hugh’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society, 123 S. Sparks Street, State College, PA 16801.
