Obituary of Barbara Boal Barbara Albertine Boal, affectionately called Aunt Barbie or Peg by some, 96, of State College, died Friday, May 11, 2018, at Juniper Village at Brookline, The Pines. Born March 3, 1922, near Centre Hall, Barbara was the daughter of the late Robert Stanley and Marion May Meiss Boal. Barbara is survived by her niece, Michele Lyerly; nephew, Jeff Horen; great-nieces, Stephanie Lyerly, Carrie Lyerly, Nicole Horen, and Renee Horen. In addition to her parents she was predeceased in death by her sister, Norma Horen; brother-in-law, Mike Horen; and nephew-in-law, Chip Lyerly. Barbara grew up in the Altoona area. She graduated from Altoona High School. After graduating from business school, Barbara worked for Pennsylvania Bell Telephone Company. She retired in 1984 as an Executive Secretary in State College. Barbara enjoyed traveling all over the world. She loved drawing and won prizes over the years for entries to the State Fair. She was musically gifted, singing in the choir at church and playing both the piano and organ. She also enjoyed playing games, including BUNCO and mahjong. Barbara was well loved by her many friends. She was an avid fan of Penn State Nittany Lions sports, especially football. Visitation will be 5:00pm until 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2018 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. The funeral service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Mount Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Branch Rd., State College, with Pastor Edward Preston officiating. A visitation will be held at church on Tuesday morning one hour prior to the service, from 10am. until 11am. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Bethany United Methodist Church, Centre Hall Memorial contributions may be directed to Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Branch Rd., State College, PA 16801, in memory of Barbara Albertine Boal. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
