Obituary for Lemuel Floyd Queen Lemuel Floyd Queen, age 86, of Hudson passed away peacefully on Friday, May 4, 2018, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson, NC. He was born in Cleveland County on February 12, 1932, the son of Glenn and Vertie Self Queen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Queen McDonald and husband, Wayne along with niece, Jane M. Stroupe. “Queen” was a graduate of Gamewell High School where he was active in sports. He was an Eagle Scout. He joined the North Carolina National Guard while still in high school. He served 36 years in the military, attending Officers Training School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He transferred from NCNG into the Army Reserves with rank of Major, where he served until retirement. He was employed for 42 years with Southern Bell/BellSouth which later became AT&T. He began his career as a lineman, cable repairmen, installer repairmen, test deskman supervisor and retired as a construction manager. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and a member of the Hibriten Masonic Lodge #262 for over 50 years. He was a member of the Hudson Optimist Club for 47 years, serving as President, receiving Optimist of the Year and Life Membership awards in 1990. He has been an active member of Colliers United Methodist Church in Lenoir since 1955. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Frances F. Queen of the home, one son, Kennedy Lee Queen and husband, Joseph Williams of Raleigh and one daughter, Kara Kay Queen of Greenville, SC, one sister, Mable and husband, Johnny Hoke of Morganton, two nephews, Wayne and Johnny Freeman, along with several great nephews and nieces. Crypt-side rites with military honors will be held at Burke Memorial Park, Morganton, NC, on Tuesday, May 8th at 11:00 am. Rev. Lori Anne Bowen will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Colliers United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 2625 Clarks Chapel Road, Lenoir, NC 28645 or Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645. The family graciously thanks Dr. Ray, the nurses, LPN’s, and CNA’s and staff for their care and concerns during his stay at Hospice.
