Michael J Davino Saturday May 12 2018

Obituary of Michael Davino Michael J. Davino, 88, loving father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the Baptist Home at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck, New York on May 12, 2018. Michael was born at home in Fairview, New Jersey to Italian immigrant parents, Michael and Mary Davino (nee Rea), on January 13, 1930. Michael’s parents, his brothers, Vincent and Nicholas and his sister, Louise, all predeceased him. Nicholas’s wife, Carrie, Michael’s youngest brother, Charles and his wife, Arlene, survive him in New Jersey as does several nieces and nephews. Michael served in the US Navy during the Korean War from 1951-1955 where he worked as a welder and culinary specialist while being stationed stateside and throughout the Caribbean. After serving, Mike was employed by Alcoa in Edgewater, NJ for ten years. Michael then became a letter carrier for the US postal services where he befriended countless people on his mail route and was always eager to lend a helping hand. On November 19, 1960, Michael married Dorothy Brzozowski, the love of his life. Together they raised a family in Cliffside Park, New Jersey and continued to live there until Dorothy’s passing in 2007. After Dorothy’s death, Mike, went to live in Staatsburg, New York with his daughter, Denise Davino-Mattel, her husband, Bruce Mattel and their son, Jason whom he adored. Despite battling Parkinson’s disease, Michael continued to be an avid gardener and helped out around the house. Each year, he looked forward to the warmer weather when he could be seen by everyone in the neighborhood puttering around the yard sprucing things up. Michael also loved the New York Yankees and would stay up late watching the games and hoping for a win. Michael was such a wonderful, gentle man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was always patient, kind and generous. He will be sorely missed by his family and by everyone who had the chance to know him. Michael’s family wants to thank the leadership, nurses and staff of the Baptist Home at Brookmeade for their love, compassion and the excellent care that they provided to Mike during his last three years of life. Calling Hours will be held Wednesday May 16 from 5pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.
