Dorothy Hagar (Dottie), 97, passed away on March 30, 2018. She was born and raised in Marlboro, NY and was a longtime resident of the Town of Newburgh. She was the daughter of the late Anna and John Downer. Dottie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, preparing wonderful holiday dinners, travelling and RVing, gardening, reading, and sharing in her husband’s passion for antique cars. Her grandchildren have cherished memories of their times spent together. Over the years, Dottie worked a succession of office jobs, including bookkeeping and office management. Her last and favorite job was assistant registrar at Mount Saint Mary College, working under Sister Dorothea. She is predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Andrew, and her brothers Vincent Downer and Francis Downer. She is survived by her five children, Stephanie Siegel (Dr. Richard Luria) of Cornwall, NY; Sandra Jones (Edward Jones) of New Windsor, NY; Stephen Hagar (Kathy Sult) of Montgomery, NY; Anne-Marie Matthews (Edward) of Colts Neck, NJ and Laurie Hagar of Gloucester, MA. Grandchildren Jennifer Sutcliffe (Geoffrey) of Newburgh, NY; Patrick Jones of Portland, OR; Melanie Schaffner (Richard), New Windsor, NY; Stephen Olenik of Somers Point, NJ and Stephanie Olenik of Colts Neck, NJ, as well as two great-grandchildren, Richard & Andrew Schaffner and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be private. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10 am, Thursday, April 5th at St. Mary’s Church, Route 9W, Marlboro with The Reverend Thomas K. Dicks officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
