Obituary for Ronald E. Flynn Ronald E. Flynn, 86, of Rutherford and Barnegat, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 20, after spending a joyful weekend at home with his family. Ron was born on November 27, 1931 in Jersey City, and grew up eating ketchup sandwiches during the Great Depression (or so he told his grandchildren). He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1949, and received a Good Conduct Medal for his service. He was the founder and owner of Richmond Express Company, an import/export trucking business that operated in Port Elizabeth from 1972 to 2011. RXCO was family-owned and operated, allowing him to work alongside his three children every day. He retired to Barnegat in 2006 with his wife Lucille. Ron was a Renaissance man with endless interests like bowling, bocce, and billiards. He enjoyed yoga, archery, and playing poker in Atlantic City. He was a prolific reader of crime novelists like David Baldacci and Nelson DeMille, and a lifelong fan of the Yankees and the Giants. He travelled the globe in retirement, from the Badlands to Budapest and to his mother’s hometown of Piacenza, Italy. Ron is survived by his daughters, Karen Flynn-Ross and Cheryl Leier (Thomas); his daughter-in-law, Donna Davison; his sister, Eleanor Johnson; and his brothers, Ed and Richie. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Patrick Ross, Bryan Leier, Samantha Ross, and Madison Flynn, whom he immortalized on a Buick with the vanity license plate ‘PBSM.’ He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, his son James, his brother Joseph, and his parents Rose Poggioli and Edward Flynn. Ron’s family invite you to join them on Wednesday, May 23 from 5pm to 7pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home at 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford. A celebration of his extraordinary life will begin at 6pm and will feature a prayer service, readings by his grandchildren, and the presentation of the Honor Guard by the U.S. Marine Corps. Cremation is private. In lieu of flowers, donations of pinot grigio can be made to his daughters.
