Obituary for Haig Sergenian Haig H. Sergenian, 88, died peacefully on Saturday, April 21, 2018 in Montgomery, NJ. He was born in Chicago in 1929, the son of Harold H. and Ella (Hill) Sergenian, and later lived in Saratoga, NY and Yonkers, NY. Haig graduated from Michigan State University in 1951 and served in the US Army 1951-1953. He married the love of his life, Roberta Totero, in 1954. Haig and Roberta lived in Yonkers many years, raising their family, while Haig worked as a food chemist. They retired to New London, NH in 1994, after having a house built according to their own design, complete with Haig’s beloved library. Haig very much enjoyed his involvement with the Civil War Round Table and the Sutton (NH) Historical Society, as well as his collection of military insignia, and his extensive research into his and Roberta’s family histories. Haig is survived by his devoted wife of over 63 years, Roberta; two loving daughters, Ruth (Jeffrey Mayer), and Amy (Ismael Cartagena-Vidro); and three cherished grandsons, David Mayer, Daniel Cartagena-Sergenian, and Samuel Cartagena-Sergenian. Haig is preceded in death by his father, mother, older sister, Ruth DeAngelis of New London, NH, and infant brother, Rand Sergenian. Haig will be remembered for his love of mountain climbing, dogs, military history, maps, art, books, genealogy, and chocolate ice cream. He will also be remembered for his gentle manner, firm handshake, and his beautiful smile. Haig’s remains will be interred in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY, alongside his parents.
