Obituary for William Vickroy William (Bill) Rees Vickroy born 1929 passed away peacefully Sunday, May 20, 2018. He was surrounded by his family on the last day of his life. Beloved husband of Peggy Doolittle, devoted father of Theodore (d. 2018), William Jr. and Nancy. Son of Theodore Sessinghaus (d. 1971) and Helen Southern (d. 1998), brother of John S. Vickroy (d. 2013) and Dorothy Ann Nelson. Cherished uncle of Carol (d. 2014) & Jay Barrington, John & Therese Vickroy, Stephen & Debra Vickroy, Ann & Grayson Heffner, John & Vikki Clayton, Susan & Doug Hickman, Ann Nelson, Laura Segala and Caroline Kris. Bill made impressive contributions during his life both professionally and personally. He was known for his leadership, quiet sense of humor and an avid collector of toy soldiers. Graduate of Webster Groves High School and Cornell University. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, serving on a destroyer during the Korean War. Joined IBM in 1955 as one of the first automation systems marketing executives. Began his career at McDonnell Douglas Automation Company (McAUTO) in 1965. He had been Vice President of International Marketing at the time of his retirement in 1989. Bill was very active in the St. Louis community serving as Chairman of the Board of SLARC (St. Louis ARC), major fundraiser for YMCA of Greater St. Louis, treasurer of St. Peter’s Episcopal, and later in life tutored children in St. Louis City schools. Bill was an inspiration to his family, leading by example. Memorial Service at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 110 N. Warson Rd., at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 2nd. Visitation will be at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., on Friday, June 1st from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Peters Episcopal Church, St. Louis ARC or YMCA of Greater St. Louis.
