Obituary of Robert Pastoors Robert (Bob) Pastoors, age 87, of Danube, died Saturday, March 31, 2018, at the Olivia Nursing Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville. The Rev. Dennis Labat will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service at the church in Renville. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN. Memorials may be donated to a charity of choice. Robert (Bob) Pastoors was born April 1, 1930, on the Pastoors homestead farm in Troy Township, to Frank and Julia (Kopel) Pastoors. He attended school at Danube, MN and farmed with his father until he was drafted into the Marines in 1951. Robert served at Camp Pendleton, California, and was a commissioned corporal. After his service of three years, he returned to his home to marry Avis Draeger at St. Catherine’s Parish, in Redwood Falls, MN, in 1956. He was blessed with a son David, who was born in 1958. Roberts’s ambitions included farming, tinkering with antique machinery and enjoying his 1924 Model T cars. His horses were his true pride and joy, and was known for raising purebred Belgians and his surrey rides during the winter. He also had a passion for music and never missed a polka dance, while kicking up his cowboy boots. In his later years, he worked for McLauphlen and Schultz Trucking Company, hauling semi loads of peas, sweet corn, and sugar beets and traveling many miles. He would always return to work his garden and tend his apple trees, but he made the best dill pickles anyone has eaten. The Knights of Columbus and Holy Redeemer Church were graced with his years of service and always could count on him to be a rosary leader and lector for the parish. Robert is survived by his son, David (and Deb) Pastoors, Olivia, MN; his grandchildren: Jennifer (and Adam) Bernardy, Jacob (and Sarah Schroth), Jessica, Joshua, and Jenessa Pastoors; his great grandchildren: Adaleigh, Elliott, and Ainslie Bernardy; his sister, Dolores (and Donald) Haubrich of Danube, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Avis, and his brother Jerry. Blessed be his memory, may you find comfort in the hands of angels.
