Fred D Herrick Jr 2018

Mr. Fred D. Herrick, Jr., 88, of Lower Edgemont Road, Waynesboro, died Sunday morning, May 20, 2018, in his home. Born April 27, 1930 in Milton, PA he was the son of the late Fred D. Herrick, Sr. and Stella (Burkee) Herrick. He attended school in Milton, PA and graduated from in high school in 1948. Mr. Herrick served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War for four years until his honorable discharge in September of 1953. He and his wife, Carolyn (Groft) Herrick, were married 1980 in Hagerstown, MD. Mr. Herrick was a member of the Owls Club, the Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, and the William Max McLaughlin VFW Post #695 all in Waynesboro, PA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and playing cards. In addition to his wife he is survived by two step-children, Scott Kauffman of South Mountain, PA and Diane Kauffman of Blue Ridge Summit, PA; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three brothers-in-laws, Darwin Bailey, Daryl Groft, and Russell Stitley; and his nephew, Mike Herrick that helped him so much. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 23, 2018, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Lee Daywalt officiating. Burial will follow in Strang’s Cemetery, South Mountain, where military graveside honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Wednesday morning, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help offset funeral expenses: Carolyn Herrick, 13865 Lower Edgemont Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
