Nathaniel Wright Carpenter, Jr., 80, of Beaver Grove, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born February 3, 1938 in Midland, Michigan, a son of the late Nathaniel W. and Patricia Carpenter, Sr. Nathaniel retired in 1977 after serving 20 years in the US Air Force as a maintenance technician and he was a Vietnam veteran. His interests included taking trips, reading, cars, spending time with his grandchildren and he served as a den leader for the Boy Scouts. Nathaniel is survived by his wife, Maxine (Larson) Carpenter of Beaver Grove, whom he married on August 18, 1972; daughter, Susan Herringa; step-daughter, Tina Valiquette of Ishpeming; grandchildren, James Valiquette, Tasha & Lacey Flynn, Kyra and Zaida Niemi; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-son, Randy Monhead. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 10 am to 12 Noon at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Noon in the funeral home with Rev. Charles Tooman officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Vietnam Veterans of America Negaunee Chapter.
