Obituary for Irene Delores DeMarse Mrs. Irene Delores DeMarse, age 93, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018, in Grand Haven, Michigan. She was born in Grand Haven on June 10, 1924, to William and Elizabeth (DePender) Strahsburg; and graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1949. Irene had worked as an administrative assistant to the superintendent of Grand Haven Area Public Schools prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she was in leadership and involved in several ministries including: RCIA, Rosary and Prayer groups, and funeral luncheon committee. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Irene followed the Detroit Tigers and tennis (Grand Slam), but especially enjoyed watching her sons play sports. She enjoyed spending time at the Grand Haven beach and walking the pier. Irene had a wonderful sense of humor and lived life to the fullest. On July 4, 1953, Irene married Robert Edward DeMarse in Grand Haven, and he preceded her in death on August 30, 1982. She is survived by her sons: Michael DeMarse, William (Lynn) DeMarse, David DeMarse and Robert DeMarse Jr.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; Mary Bennett; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Fricano; and brother, Edward Strahsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Charles Schwartz presiding. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at The VanZantwick Chapel with the Rosary prayed at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorials in Irene’s memory may be directed to St. Patrick’s Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
