On the evening of May 12, 2018, Waylan Dean Conley passed away. There are no words to describe the void he leaves behind. To know Dean was to know laughter and kindness and compassion and acceptance. The giggle, the smirk, the quirk of the eyebrow, the not-quite-but-just-perceptible drawl, the twinkling green eyes… the quick wit, the mischievousness, the humor, the playfulness… For the all too short time the world had him, he was a gift to those whose lives he touched. Trying to condense the best things about him into just a few paragraphs is an impossible feat. Dean had a quiet calm about him. You rarely, if ever, saw him flustered. On the aircraft, chaos could be breaking out, there could be riots in the cabin, and Dean would be efficiently darting around the galley without batting an eye. He was the same in his personal life, always helping friends and family when we couldn’t help ourselves. He saw beauty where others saw trash, and had the rare gift of making anything and anyone he touched feel beautiful. He brought light into the darkest of places, and the world feels a little dimmer now without him. To all of those who knew him, I am so sorry for your loss. To all of those who did not, we thank you for listening to our stories in the days, months, and years to come, keeping his memory alive. I know that many of you are confused and have questions and will want to reach out. On behalf of Steffan and Dean’s parents, Mary and Carl, we respectfully request privacy at this time.
