Obituary of Dennis Tomah Dennis J. Tomah, 65, walked on to the spirit world May 3, 2018 at the Dr. Eunice Nelson Baumann Home at Indian Island. Dennis was born May 21, 1952 in Sipayik (Pleasant Point) to Louis H. Tomah and Virginia Ann Sopiel-Doyle. He grew up in both Sipayik and Motahkomikuk (Indian Township). Always quick to offer a smile and a helping hand to others, Dennis was known for his artistic abilities, his kindness, and his heart-felt devotion to his culture. Early in his life, Dennis attended the American Indian Institute of the Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Dennis is survived by sisters Alice Claire, Maureen A., and Georgina Tomah; brothers Louis P. and Allen P. Tomah; many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends located throughout – including Bangor, Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia and Tobique First Nation, New Brunswick. He was predeceased by sisters Mary Ann Tomah, Hazel Perley, Emily Francis and brother Alexander Doyle (Bibber). The family thanks the Dr. Eunice Nelson Baumann Home for their unwavering care and support. A sacred fire has been held since his passing and a gathering was held in his honor on Monday, May 7, at the home of Roger Paul at 16 Papermill Rd., Hampden. On Tuesday, May 8, the sacred fire will be moved to The Elderly Meal Site in Sipayik. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday, May 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Eastport, followed by internment at the Tribal Cemetery in Sipayik.
