Verla Fern (Meritt) Becker, 81, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Linda E. White Hospice House. Verla was born in Burnt Prairie, Illinois on April 26, 1937 to the late Clarence Edgar and Mary Elizabeth (Seifried) Meritt. She worked for Sears in catalog sales. Verla enjoyed gardening, especially flowers. She loved baking, sewing, quilting, embroidering, and reading. Verla is survived by her daughters, Rita Thews (Daniel), Lauren Jones (David), and Gina Becker (fiancé Neil Thomas) all of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Crystal Conger, Daniel Coomes, Jessica McClarney, Scott Coomes and Sarah Coomes; great-grandchildren, Matthew Conger, Emily Conger, Andrew Conger, Jonathan Roark, Malachi Coomes, and Ella Labarbera; niece, Mary Ann Levitt (Ron) of Mt. Vernon, IL. Verla was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 54 years, Winfred “Bill” Becker; son, John Becker; sister, Veda Vickery; and brothers, Walter Meritt and Roy Meritt. A celebration of Verla’s life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave. Burial will follow at Old Springer Cemetery in Bungay, IL. Friends may visit from 9:00 AM until service time on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Browning Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O.
