Obituary for Elaine Stiffler Elaine Elizabeth “Betty” (Lauver) Stiffler 1/15/1922 – 5/27/2018 Betty Stiffler, 96, formerly of Westfield, Indiana passed away at the Evansville Protestant Home. She was one of four children born in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Carrie Eliza (Tate) and Ammon M Lauver. She graduated from Altoona High School and worked as a Bell Telephone operator. On January 20, 1946 she married Wilfred R. Stiffler. They had one child, Nan Elaine. Betty was devoted to her family; their home was a gathering place. She was an avid reader, devoted ‘pet parent’ and loved gardening, camping and feeding the birds. She volunteered for the American Red Cross, was a Girl Scout leader, an adult literacy tutor and visited nursing homes with their dog Sandy. She was of the Lutheran faith. She is survived by her daughter Nan Britton, nephew Mark Peters, niece Caroline Lauver Disney (Don), nephew Richard Lauver, and sister-in-law Helen Lauver. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings Marguerite, Mabel and Harold Lauver. Special thanks to Phyllis Cooling and Anna Marie Keil who helped Nan care for Betty for 9 years. And to Linda Shevlin who also helped with her care. Dr Hardesty, the staff at Protestant Home (North Nursing) and SouthernCare Hospice (especially Helen) were wonderful caregivers and supportive in so many ways. Ziemer Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Private graveside services were held in Carmel, Indiana. Donations may be made to Alzheimer’s research or Vanderburgh County Humane Society.
