Homer L. Vance, 69, of Rock Island, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018 at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family. Homer was born on August 15, 1948 in Trevorlocke, MS, the son of Umaine Vance and Ella Mae Townsend. He married Christine Taylor on July 21, 1972 in Mississippi. Homer last worked as an auto mechanic. He enjoyed playing the lottery and spending time working on cars and being around friends in the garage. Homer is survived by his wife, Christine Vance; children, Sandy (Wayne) Robertson, Gloria Vance, Shlonda Dancer, Rhonda (Sterling) King, Christopher L. Vance, and Nicole Jarrett; grandchildren, Tee’ Mettria, Zsakia, Tenesha, Shaquille, Dominique, Ja’ Kobe, Aaliyah, Zy’ Keadra, Christopher Jr., Monte, Neekhii, and Cornell; and siblings, Andy, Jessie, Burt, and Theodus. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Eugene Gaston, James Townsend, and Mandy Townsend.
