Lavinia Maxine Hoelter, 82, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 1:03 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Stearns Nursing and Rehabilitation in Granite City. She was born July 27, 1935 in Madison, Illinois, a daughter of the late Thurman and Effie (O’Dell) Cleveland. She married Lawrence Alvin “Larry” Hoelter on June 1, 1957 at the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granite City and he passed away on January 12, 2007. She retired in 1996 from the United States Postal Service after over 40 years of dedicated service as a rural route mail carrier. She was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City and cherished her years serving as a Girl Scout leader. She was a founding member and very involved with the Alpha Center Home for Unwed Mothers and the Phoenix Crisis Center. She was active with the Mexican Honorary Commission and enjoyed working with crafts and cherished the special times shared with her family. She is survived by three daughters, Cindy Argent of Greenville, Janet Meyers of Mountain Grove, Missouri and Judy Nicol of Granite City; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Dena Hoelter of Granite City; eighteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons-in-law, Craig Argent, John Nicol and Woody Meyers; two grandchildren, Monica Stafford and Rodie Littlefield and four sisters, Ruby Hardy, Ann Howard, Evelyn Hileman and Shirley Crockarell. In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jeff Holtman as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and may be accepted at the funeral home.
