Marjorie E. Morscheiser, 93, of La Salle, died peacefully on May 2, 2018 at Illinois Veterans Home in La Salle. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle with Rev. Jennifer Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in La Salle with full military services conducted by La Salle-Oglesby Veteran’s Memorial Group. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 AM until time of services. Mrs. Morscheiser was born in La Salle on December 16, 1924 to John and Jessie (Kepper) Thompson. She married Harold “Mo” Morscheiser on November 23, 1949. She worked at Prince Ice Cream Castle in La Salle and then Orsingers Ice Cream Shop in La Salle. Mrs. Morscheiser enlisted with US Coast Guard as an apprentice seaman. After boot camp, she attained rank of Petty Officer Yeoman 2nd Class and was assigned to Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington D.C. She was discharged in May of 1946. Mrs. Morscheiser graduated from cosmetology college in Chicago in April of 1947. From there, she worked at Two Sisters Beauty Salon in La Salle until 1948. She then worked in accounts payable at Westclox until June of 1953. Along with her husband Mo, they started Silverfross Rootbeer Stand in La Salle until 1957. From 1957 to 1959, she worked in the office of JC Penny in La Salle. She then returned back to Orsingers until 1967 and retired as the secretary for United Steel Workers of America in May of 1988. Mrs. Morscheiser was a lifetime and longest continuous member of Grace United Methodist Church. She was also a member of La Salle-Peru Elks Emblem Club. She enjoyed spending winters in Fort Myers Beach in Florida. She also followed the University of Illinois and University of Iowa football teams. Mrs. Morscheiser is survived by 1 son John “Jack” (Donna) Morscheiser of Peru; 3 grandchildren Jill (Curt) Carroll of Cumming, GA, Mark (Sarah) Morscheiser of La Salle and John (Jenny) Morscheiser of Utica; 8 great-grandchildren Kyra, Christopher, Andrew, Landon, Grady, Lily, Mason and Jaron. She is preceded in death by her husband Mo on September 3, 2003, 3 brothers Franklin Thompson, John Thompson Jr, and William Thompson; 1 sister Charlene Thompson. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home or Horizon House. Pallbearers will be John Thompson III, Robert Thompson, Bill Thompson Jr., Landon Morscheiser, Jim Safranski, George Baker, and Peter Gericke.
