Obituary for Lois Savitz (Rushing) Lois Savitz, 97, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Manor Court of Carbondale. Lois was born on August 26, 1920, in Murphysboro, to Norman Rushing and Minnie (Johnson) Rushing. She married James A. Savitz on March 28, 1951, in Cairo, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1978. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Savitz was a professing born again Christian and was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church in Murphysboro. In her younger years, she had sang on the radio and made a record. She loved to read, and she never met a stranger. After her stroke, she lived eighteen years and resided in three nursing homes, and she maybe could be considered the official nursing home greeter. She was preceded in death by two sisters Arawayne GiIlespie and Uba Rushing, one brother Norman Ray Rushing, and her parents. She is survived by two nephews Richard (Evelyn) Gillespie and Ray (Sharon) Gillespie, all of Anna; one niece Pam (Tom) Fisher of Anna; and great nieces and great nephews. Gravesite services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Tower Grove Cemetery with Rev. Charles Allen officiating. Memorials may be made to Elm Street Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
