CARBONDALE – Larry Skipton ‘Skip’ Briggs, died in Carbondale on Friday, May 4, 2018. He was born October 18, 1933, in McLean, Texas. He is survived by William Scott Briggs, his only brother, and wife Terri; his wife Barre Mulliken-Briggs; Larry Scott Briggs, his oldest son, and wife Carol; their sons Andy, Graig and Gary; his only daughter, Kymberli Kay and her husband, David; and Brandon, his youngest son. He spent the next 27 years working as a professional designer in advertising agencies, and free-lance designer. While working as a senior art director for Bloom advertising, he met and married Barre Mulliken, from Bloomington. In 1985, he moved to Carbondale so he could start his second career as a college professor at Southern Illinois University, teaching advertising design. Later that year, he became a father again to Brandon Briggs. While in Carbondale, he was elected to serve four years on the City Council. He loved serving the city of Carbondale. His ashes will be carried to the Vietnam Memorial Wall in D.C. by Brandon on the next Run For the Wall, and will be scattered on the beach at sunrise on Easter morning. “Don’t mourn his loss.
