CHARLES WILLIAM TALBERT Charles William Talbert, 95, of Quincy, formerly of Springfield, passed away at 1:02 am Monday (May 7, 2018) at the Illinois Veterans Home. Born February 14, 1923 in York, Nebraska, Charles was the son of Roy Lee and Nellie Baker Talbert. He married Carol Jean Snow on January 4, 1951. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2011. Charles was a graduate of Thayer United Community High School in Thayer, Nebraska, and went on to receive his Master’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Nebraska. Mr. Talbert was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jerome, Illinois. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, tending to his fruit trees and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Charles had been employed as an engineer for Allis Chalmers Tractor Manufacturing Company for 31 years until his retirement in 1979. Survivors include two sons, Michael Dee Talbert (Sally) of Rushville, IL and Timothy W. Talbert (Sheri) of Chatham, IL; a daughter, Sue Ann Hoffman (David) of Lebanon, PA; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Adam and Laurel Hoffman, Amanda, Daniel, Heather and Jessica Talbert, and Sara Stickling; two great grandchildren, Lily and Benjamin. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in the All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home with Chaplain Dave Hall officiating. Burial with military honors by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and the Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 will be in Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 until the time of services at the All Faiths Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
