Mr. Robert Lewis “R.L.” Erwin, age 100, of Lexington Highway, Elberton, husband of 77 years to the late Helen Smith Erwin, finished his course in faith on Friday, May 25, 2018, at his daughter’s residence in Gray. Mr. Erwin was born in Elbert County on February 1, 1918, son of the late William Arthur Erwin and Mittie Saxon Erwin. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law,… Read More » Carolyn and Charles Ray of Gray; daughter-in-law, Brenda McMullan of Dewy Rose; brother, William Howard “Bill” Erwin of Suwanee; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his son, Wallace Erwin; one sister; and seven brothers. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, May 29, at 2 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Austin McCall, Brooks McDuffie, Cory McDuffie, Nick Johnson, Tanner Ray, and Andrew Coggins serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Contributions may be made in his memory to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 1020 Jack McVeigh Drive, Elberton, GA 30635.
