Joan Barbara Major passed away Friday, April 27, 2018. She was a longtime resident of Ottawa Lake, MI, and most recently lived in Kennesaw, GA. Born in Chicago, IL, on August 19, 1936, Joan was one of three children of John and Barbara (Stochl) Major. Joan graduated from Harrison HS in 1944, and worked for Suburban Motor Freight after graduation. Joan moved to Southern Michigan in 1962 to raise her family, and continued to work at various transportation companies. In the 80’s, Joan worked for Churchill’s Supermarkets in Sylvania, OH and contracted with several families as a housekeeper. Joan loved animals, excelled at creative activities including; ceramics, painting & drawing, sewing, landscape design, and was a Master Gardener. She particularly enjoyed supporting Whiteford High School athletic programs where her three children attended school in Ottawa Lake, MI. Joan was a member of St. Anthony Parish in Temperance, Michigan, and St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Kennesaw GA. Joan was also an ardent supporter of the University of Michigan football program. She is survived by her sister Sharon Kolinski and brother Robert John Major and wife Buncie, her three children; Sheryl (Kramer) Brooker, her husband Bernie, Daniel Kramer, and Shannon Cronin, two grandchildren Brittany (Brooker) Eitniear and her husband Tommy, and Rachel Brooker, as well as three great grandchildren Thomas, Ty and Tre Eitniear. A Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 4PM at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Kennesaw Georgia. A celebration of Joan’s life will also be held at a future date in Ottawa Lake, MI.
