Obituary of Richard McGuire Richard McGuire, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2018, surrounded by his family. Rich was born March 11, 1935 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, to Albena Woodrum (Novaire) and Harry McGuire. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Jane McGuire (Smith), daughters Shel McGuire (Mark Kearley), Kris Leto (Paul Leto) and grandchildren Emma, Paige, PJ, and Christopher. Rich grew up in Charleroi, PA and served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He received his teaching degree from California State Teacher’s College. Rich and Mary moved to south Florida in 1961. Soon after, Rich began teaching at Sabal Palm Elementary School where he taught science and gifted students for the next 34 years. He is fondly remembered by everyone who knew him, especially his students. He inspired a love of learning and taught respect for others, always with a sense of humor. Rich retired in 1993 and he and Mary moved to Deland, FL in 1994. Rich enjoyed playing golf, growing orchids, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. A Celebration of Life will take place in June, date and time will be determined at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in Rich’s name.
