Obituary for George Morris Simon Simon, George Morris, 95 of Aventura, previously longtime resident of Miami Beach, died peacefully at home on Sunday afternoon, May 20, 2018. He was the beloved husband of the late Marilyn Simon. He was born in New York City to Samuel and Dorothy Simon, on November 9, 1922 and had an older sister, Shirley Simon Rosen, predeceased. He spent his early years in Far Rockaway, and moved to Miami Beach in 1934 to join his parents who had earlier moved to FL. He atteneded Miami Beach Senior High School, and later the University of Miami in 1948 with a degree in Accounting, after serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. He then went to work for the firm of Weber, Thompson Lefcourt where he became a partner & left in 1962 to join a business group. He was Executive V.P. of International Hotels, and in 1962 became Financial Advisor to Flagler Dog Track and Isidore Hecht and Jack B. Cooper, his dearest friend and mentor. He later became Managing Partner of newly built Triton Towers on Miami Beach as well as The Miami Airport Inn. He was a Grand Founder of University of Miami Athletics. He was passionate about serving on the Board of Mount Sinai Hospital where he was a member of the Society of Founders, and subsequently served as Chairman of the Board. George also was a Founder of the Miami Jewish Home for the Aged, and the Parkinson Foundation. He is survived by his children Cindy, Steve, and Jon Simon and was grandfather to Mia Simon, Kevin Simon, Chasen Simon, Jillian Simon, Andrew Simon and Matthew Simon. Services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Chapel at 720 71st Street, Miami Beach, FL at 11:00 am, followed by burial at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. The family will sit shiva only 1 night following the services at George’s residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Parkinson Foundation, the USO or Paralyzed Veterans, causes he was passionate about, or The American Lung Association.
