Obituary for Ernest C. Rutherford Ernest “Ernie” Charles Rutherford, 92 of Englewood,Florida died on Sunday, May 27, 2018. He was born on September 13, 1925 and lived much of his life in Pennsauken, New Jersey. He was married to Marie (DeGiovanni) Rutherford for 69 years, worked as a pressman for Parade Publications in Philadelphia, PA for 34 years and after he retired moved to Englewood, FL where they have lived for 30 years. Ernie was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he served on PC 567 the control boat that signaled the start of D-Day, on Omaha Beach in France. One of his biggest honors was receiving the Croix DeGuerre from the French Government for his service. Survivors include his spouse Marie; two sons: James (Lael) Rutherford of Medford, New Jersey and Thomas (Cheryl) Rutherford of Englewood, Florida; one daughter: Pat Krzywicki of Englewood, Florida. Ernie was also the loving grandfather to five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The public is invited to attend the Interment with military honors, which will take place at the Sarasota National VA Cemetery at 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Eleven A.M.
