Obituary for James (Jim) Urso James (Jim) Urso, 84, beloved husband of Polly (Daboll) passed away peacefully at home Sunday, May 13, 2018. Jim was born January 13, 1934 in New Britain CT. He was the eldest son of the late Sebastiano and Maria Urso. Jim served in the US Navy aboard the USS Cadmus from 1956-1958. Jim had many interests and hobbies but none greater than fishing. He never missed opening day at the Salmon River with his son and brother. He was an avid boater, the captain of the Lord Jim out of Noank. Jim was an accomplished artist and his passion for the sea showed in his oil paintings. He was employed by the New Britain Herald of Herald Square in New Britain. He began his career in 1961 as a machinist in the composing room and as the newspaper evolved he ended his career in 1994 as a computer technician. Jim will be forever remembered for his love of Volkswagen beetles that he rebuilt and painted with the help of his son in law. Jim will be dearly missed by his family. He and his wife Polly shared 59 years together in Southington, Old Saybrook, Florida, and Canton. He leaves his son James Urso Jr and wife Lynne of Shrewsbury, MA and his daughter Charlene Plourde and husband Doug of Avon. His children will forever remember their time with him on forest marches, flying model airplanes and rockets, and racing slot cars. Jim shared his hobbies and passions with his most beloved treasures, his 5 grandchildren. Chelsea Sanchez and husband Oscar, Collin Plourde and his significant other Samantha Natale, Olivia Urso, Julia Plourde, and Lilliana Urso. They cherished their time spent with their grandpa at the beach. Jim is also survived by his brother Louis Urso and wife Nancy of Southington, sister in law Clara Daboll of Middletown and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Antoinette Noury and her husband Norman of New Britain and his brother in law George Daboll of Portland. Jim will reunite with the late John Grant of Southington, with whom he shared a lifelong friendship, and the two can now rekindle their love of playing the harmonica together. He will be dearly missed by his friend and companion Leroy Samuels. Leroy was forever by his side in the last chapter of his life and helped to make this transition easier on Jim and his family through his care and never-ending love. The family would like to extend an immense amount of gratitude to the Farmington Valley Visiting Nurse hospice staff. They were a guiding light at the end and their dedication and compassion was unwavering. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Southington. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Southington with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Farmington Valley Visiting Nurse Hospice, 8 Old Mill Lane, Simsbury, CT 06070.
